Abstract
For many people, buying and owning a house is a dream come true and it represents a major milestone in their life. However, faced with increasingly unaffordable house prices in most cities around the world, the prospect of buying a house has seemed to become more and more unlikely. The same situation is no exception in Kuching - the capital city of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, where the average house prices are substantially higher than the national average of the country. While it is not uncommon to hear Kuchingites expressing their dissatisfaction about the high house prices in the city, very little actual research has been conducted to study the affordability of house prices in Kuching, and even less so are those dedicated to studying the impacts of the housing situations had on the low-income populations living in the city.
