Abstract

The number of broadband services subscription in Malaysia continues to expand since Malaysia entered the Information Technology (IT) innovations. But currently, the percentage of broadband penetration rate in Sarawak is only 48 percent and it is still difficult to achieve 50 percent of broadband services subscription. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting broadband services subscription in Sarawak. In this study, three different categories of the internet usage were identified. There were several aspects that influence the broadband services subscription such as awareness, affordability and attractiveness. On the other hand, demographic and another factor that hinders the broadband subscription were also analyzed in this study. This study used the convenience sampling method and a total of 500 students were surveyed from three different educational institutions. Three hypotheses were extracted from a research framework and were analyzed using descriptive analysis (frequencies and cross tabulation), reliability test, and factor analysis. The empirical result reflects the positive relationships towards broadband services subscription. This study discussed the findings and implications then subsequently provide the recommendations to improve the broadband services in the future.
