Abstract

This study aims to identify the relationship between non-monetary rewards and worker's motivation at Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), Sarawak. The four researched factors that affect the workers motivation are recognition, leadership, workplace and the opportunity for workers to receive training. About 60 respondents were chosen randomly among non-executive workers and questionnaires were used as the researcher's instrument item. The Pearson Correlation Test from the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 12.0 software was used by the researcher to analyze the data. From the findings, leadership factor and workplace factor were significant because the p < 0.05. For the leadership factor, the result was p = 0.014 and r = 0.317* which means weak relationship (r = 0.21-0.40). For workplace factor, p = 0.000 and r = 0.482** which means, they have a moderately strong relationship (0.41-0.70). Meanwhile, recognition factor and opportunity for training were found not significant towards the worker's motivation because the p > 0.05. The recognition factor results show that p = 0.136 and the training factor, p = 0.065 . This shows that both of these factors do not play an important role in increasing the worker's motivation to work better. As a conclusion, top management must understand and have knowledge about non-monetary factors which drive the worker's motivation so that, they can give their full commitment to meet the organization's goals.
