Abstract

This study is done to find out and examine various forms and problems in polygamy among middle age men. The study also focuses on the personalities of the respondent based on Sidek's Inventory of Personalities. There are five respondents involved in this study, aged between 40 to 60 years old and all of them resided around Kuching area, Sarawak Instrument used in this study are Sidek's Inventory of Personalities (IPS). Method used to collect data is the interview whereby questions are set in semi structured form and this process are done in prescribed procedure. The finding of the study has shown that the reason for these men to commit polygamy was influenced by sense sympathy of the second wife. These factors can be associated with extrovert types of personality within respondent. Personality test also shown that each respondent are differs from each other. Researcher suggested that Department of Islam Religion conduct marriage courses for individuals who wish to commit polygamy. On the other hand, counselor are also urged to have skills in family counseling as to help them more effective in counseling session. Researcher also hopes that in future, more study can be done in this field including rights of women after polygamy.
