Abstract

Commitment is the essential element in routine jobs. Unfortunately, most of researches approaching on commitment influences still limited to be taken deeply and critically. In management perspectives, one of the existences of leader work commitment is leadership style. This research was carried out to investigate the relationship between leadership style and leader work commitment in MS ISO organization. Sample of population in this research were manager, executive and supervisor in Kuching Port Authority (23), Institut Latihan Perindustrian, Kuching (ILP) (7) and Hotel Equatorial, Penang (30). Therefore, a total of37 respondents were participated in this study. Questionnaires were used as a research instrument. Modified Leadership Behavior Descriptive Questionnaires (LBDQ) developed by Stodgill (1975) was used to study leadership style. However, questionnaire of commitment is developed based on research requirement. Pilot test to examine the validity and reliability of the questionnaires was carried out at Department of Undergraduate Studies that included 4 respondents showed Alpha Cronbach value of autocratic (0.8604) , democratic (0.8475), consultative (0.8774), decisive (0.8577) and (0.8566) for commitment Based on Pearson Correlation test of leadership style as independent variable showed that leadership style have a significant relationship with leader work commitment as dependant variable where autocratic (r = 0.472, P < 0.01), democratic (r 0.566, P < 0.01), consultative (r = 0.675, P < 0.01) and decisive (r = 0.650, P < 0.01). Meanwhile, linear regression showed that consultative leadership style has the most dominant influences on leader work commitment (R: = 0.456). Entirely, research proved that leadership style had the impact on leader work commitment. Furthermore, research also showed that MS ISO organizations practice mostly consultative leadership style because of the flexible and convenience to subordinates.
