Abstract

The main objective of this project is to study experimentally natural and forced heat convection. A WL 352 Free and Force Convection with PC Data Acquisition was used. The results from using three heaters of flat plate, fins and pipe bundle were compared in the study. From the natural heat convection experiment, the heat transfer efficiency of the pipe bundle, fins and flat plate heaters were calculated to be 22.1 %, 14.6% and 3.7% respectively. The pipe bundle heater is a good heater for the natural heat convection due to a bigger surface area. When the experiment forced heat convection was carried out using the pipe bundle heater, it has a heat transfer efficiency of 43.9% at a low air flow rate. It could be concluded that forced convection is a good method for efficient heat transfer process.
