Abstract
This study is carried out to identify the factors which causing labour shortages in the plantation sector in Bintulu. These study indicates that income wage rate is the main factor which influences the willingness of local workers to work in the plantation sector. Beside that, the basic amenities such as living quarters and other amenities which are not satisfactory is found to discourge local people decision whether or not to work in the plantation. Working environment such as working hours, supervisors�workers and workers-workers relationships are found to be quite satisfactory and have positive influence on willingness of local people to work in the plantation. Other factors such as old age, many dependant children, and a much highest level of education among the local residents also have negative influence on their willingness to work in plantations.
