Abstract

This research studies the difference between of trade union and management's views toward the issues of misconduct and termination in the workforce. This is mainly based on selected demographics characteristics such as marital status, race, age, education levels and duration of service in the organization. This case study is done in NORTHPORT (Malaysia) Berhad, located at north of Port Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The respondents represent the NORTHPORT's management and NORTHPORT (Malaysia) Berhad's Staffs Union (NPMSU). A total of 164 respondents are selected through simple random sampling, which consists of 80 samples from management and 84 samples from trade union. The results of one way ANOVA show that there are significant (p<0.05) relationship of difference between the views of NORTHPORT's trade union and management toward issues of misconduct and termination. Besides, the independent sample t-test result shows that significant (p<0.05) difference between the views of trade union and management toward misconduct and termination. It occurs according to age and duration of services of respondents. For the demographic characteristics such as race and marital status, results show that there are no significant (p>0.05) difference between these two clusters of sample toward misconduct and termination. However, there are significant (p<0.05) difference of views within the trade union and management of NORTHPORT toward misconduct issues but there is no significant (p>0.05) difference between views of these two samples in issues of termination
