Abstract

Masking culture is a very interesting form of activity for it does not only portray its aesthetic values but certain mask has its own function to play. Therefore, this research intends to look at the masking culture among the Mah Men Orang Asli of Kampung Sungai Bumbun at Carey Island. This research intends to understand mask productions and its significances to the Mah Meri community by employing focused revisit method on Werner (1997) work on the Mah Meri community in early 90s. This method will allow the researcher to revisit, critic, Identify and add missing information to the previous study. The main focus of this research will be looking at the woodcarvers, method of producing mask and identify the economic changes through tourism that is happening in the village and note on the way the villagers adapted to the tourism program. Reoccurring theme in the study is also identified and elaborated Photography analysis, interview and observation are used to enhance the data collection. The outcome of the research is written in a contemporary ethnography style to capture readers' attention.
