Abstract
Cassia fistula L., Peltophorum pterocarpum (DC) Backer., and Caesalpina pulcherrima (L.) Swartz. are commonly used as ornamental plants. These species are in the Fabaceae family. They can be propagated by seeds. In this study, a total of 270 seeds of C. pulcherrima (Peacock Flower), P.pterocarpum (Yellow flame), and C.Fistula (Golden Shower) were geminated after treated with sulfuric acid and hot water. 30 seeds per species were arranged randomly. After 2 months, 10 seedlings per species were transferred into different types of potting media that contain topsoil, compost and sand. The sand proportion was different in each media. Reading of the plant growth was taken in terms of height, diameter and number of leaves until l4th week. Results indicated that treatment with sulfuric acid was the best treatment for C. fistula while hot water treatment was the best for P. pterocarpum. In the growth study. all the four types of media produced different level of growth in terms of height, diameter and number of leaves for the three species used. The study concluded that growth and biomass production were different in all of the species and the media used gave no significant effect towards the growth of these seedlings. A good statistical analysis is impossible due to very few replicates.
