Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate worker's perception towards the need of formal mentoring in Yayasan Sarawak. To study relationship between mentor's function, mentor 's qualify and work environment towards the need of mentoring. Total of 32 support staff were selected randomly in this study. Questionnaire was divided into three sections include respondent's background, worker 's perception towards the need of formal mentoring and factors that affecting worker's perception towards the need of formal mentoring. The obtained data was analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 11.0. In this study, Spearman correlation test was used to test the hypothesis. Finding research was found that majority of respondent was agree towards the need of formal mentoring which is 84.4% (n=27). Hypothesis which is tested by using Spearman correlation test was showed that mentor 's function (Spearman rho =0.592) and mentor's quality (Spearman rho = 0.508) were significant with the need of formal mentoring. Therefore. to set up the formal mentoring, mentor's function (example: leader and counsellor) and mentor's quality (example: willing to share those skills and experiences) need to take great attention.
