Abstract
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in its Landscape Master Plan listed the planting of trees bearing colourful flowers and colourful flushed foliage to occupy Ihe designed landscape area. Function of planting tree species having these characteristic will improve the aesthetic and environmental qualities when it blend with the utility of the surrounding. Study was conducted in UNIMAS campus which involved documentations of 3 tree species which produced colourful flowers and 5 tree species with colourful flushed foliage. Duration regarding their blooming and flushing were also recorded. Plumeria obtusa had the longest flowering period which was 65 days while Syzygium Campanulatum had the longest flushing period which was 19 days. The observations were carried out mainly in December as most or the studied trees started to bloom and flushed at that time. Based on total daily rainfall amount, December had received the constant distribution or rainfall for the whole month and might influence the flowering and flushing season of the studied trees. For germination experiment, syzygium polyanthum had the highest germination percentage or 79.7% Knowledge on flowering and flushing of planted tree and their relationship with the environmental condition was important as it will influence the trees growth performance in the landscape area.
