Abstract

Generally, the purpose of this study is to find out factors that lead to absenteeism among rural secondary school teachers of zone 5 in Sarawak. The locations for this study are SMK Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Normah Daro, SMK Matu and SMK Belawai. There are five factors that has been carried out in this study that consists of relationship among workers, health factors, attitude factors, working satisfaction factors and compensation and benefits factor. The demographic variables that have been chosen for these studies are. factor of gender, age, lengths of service and marital status. The instrument used to gather data for this study were questionnaires and interview. A total of 80 questionnaires was distributed, however only 76 questionnaires was returned. From the analysis of frequencies and mean have showed that health was the most significant factor influencing the absenteeism among teachers. Besides that, the result from the research showed that the differences between marital status with health factor towards absenteeism were p=0.006 at significant level is 0.05.
