Abstract

This research aimed to study the level of teacher stress and to find out the factors and the main factor contributing to teacher stress towards the use of English as the medium instruction for Science and Mathematics subject. A total of 56 teachers who taught both subjects in En, gli. slr in Kuching district were chosen as the respondents for this research. The questionnaire which consisted of two parts, Part A and Part B is used with 5 points Likert scale. At, descriptive method, mean, frequency and percentage was used to answer the objectives of the study. The study showed that most teachers (55.4%) experienced a moderate level stress, 23.2% experienced high level stress ºt'hilst 16.1% experienced low level stress. The result showed that the pupil's behavior and acceptance was the main factor contributing to teacher stress. Significant correlations occurred in the level of' stress among the respondents based on their academic qualifications, professional qualifications and teaching experiences. Based on the findings, majority of the teachers experienced the moderate level stress towards the use of English in teaching Science and Mathematics based on the five factors carried out in this study
