Abstract

Robust Design method, also known as the Taguchi Method, greatly improves engineering productivity. By consciously considering the noise factors (environmental variation during the product's usage, manufacturing variation, and component deterioration) and the cost of failure in the field, the Robust Design method helps ensure customer satisfaction. Robust Design focuses on improving the fundamental function of the product or process, thus facilitating flexible designs and concurrent engineering. Indeed, it is the most powerful method available to reduce product cost, improve quality, and simultaneously reduce development interval. This project report gives a clear picture of the application of Robust Design concepts in improving the quality and performance of an aerodynamic spoiler. Experimental results indicate that the aerodynamic spoiler that designed by applying Robust Design concepts has higher functionality than the conventional spoiler due to its higher signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio obtained during experiments. Besides that, explanation on the methods and the testing device used are included and explained. In addition, the problems faced and further explanation on what has been learnt and solutions will also be explained accordingly. Other relevant infbnnation is also attached.
