Abstract

This study aims to identify and study the adolescents' perceptions about correlation of parenting styles and adolescents' emotional intelligence (E1) in a school. The styles of parenting that been studied are authoritarian, authoritative and permissive styles. The adolescents were given with a form of questionnaires included three sections that are respondent demography, parenting style questionnaires and emotional intelligence. Then, the data collected from 58 adolescents were analyzed using descriptive and correlation statistic. Findings show that there is significance relationship between authoritative parenting style practiced by father with adolescents' El. Whereas the authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles practiced by mother shows significance relationship with adolescents' EI. Conclusion, parenting styles practiced by parents play an important role in affecting adolescents' El.
