Abstract
Phylogenetic relationships of White-nest swiftlet (Aerodramus fuciphagus) subspecies were investigated by using partial cytochrome b region in the mitochondrial DNA. Amplification and sequencing of approximately 622 base pairs of the entire mitochondrial cytochrome b had been done on nine individuals consists of three subspecies which were A.f. vestitus, A.f. amechamus, and A.f. germani. According to previous studies, these three subspecies occupied different places or regions. Phylogenetic trees were obtained from Neighbour-joining (NJ) and Maximum Parsimony (MP) methods. From the analysis, the trees were separated into two groups. First group shows that those three subspecies were mixed together and can be described as haplotype. Beside. the second group is separated into two sub-group with also consists of those three subspecies. Partial cytochrome b that was used in this study was unable to resolve the subspecific taxonomy among those subspecies.
