Abstract

The main aim of this study is to get high yield of lipid by gelling the optimum growth of Scenedesmus dimorphus in two medium. Filtered pond water (FPW) and filtered sago effluent (FSE) were used to study which of these mediums will assist Scenedesmus dimorphus to yield higher percentage of lipids. A static culture, setup of four I L clear plastic bottles equipped with aeration pump with 10% (v/v) of microalgae Scenedesmus dimorphus were cultured in FSE and FPW and were exposed under outdoor sunlight. Proteose medium was used as positive control. This study was conducted for 20 days and was repeated twice. The use of FSE and FPW is important to reduce the cost and to use organic effluent to minimize environmental pollution. The result shows that FSE yielded a higher biomass and followed by FPW. Lipid content in gram percentage yield also shows that FSE is the highest compared to FPW. Hence, the cultivation of Scenedesmus dimorphus in static culture shows FSE is the best.
