Abstract

Commercially available molluscs were analyzed for their heavy metal contents in three different species i.e. Brotia castula. Clithon sp. and melanoides tuberculata from 7 sampling sites on Sg. Sarawak Kanan. This freshwater environment is in the region of gold mineralization and other human activities. The tissue and shell were acid digested and subsequently analyzed for heavy metals. The results indicate that three molluscs species had a higher tendency 10 absorb Zo as compared to eu and Pb. The study shows that molluscs species are good at bioaccumulating and retaining metals in fresh waters.
