Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have attracted great attention among researchers due to their properties which have found numerous applications in electronics, optical, and optoelectronics (Lee et al. 2016). Since the discovery of graphene in 2004 with unique properties (Velický and Toth 2017), 2D materials have led to a revolution in materials with ultrathin dimensions. A search on the Web of Science demonstrates an exponential increase in the number of publications since the year 2000 (Figure 2.1a). Applications for 2D semiconductors span a variety of industries, including electrical and electronic, materials science, energy fuels, and engineering (Figure 2.1b).
