Abstract
This study aimed to record the assemblages and distribution of benthic diatom in Sarawak Kiri River. Samplings were carried out at four stations namely Sungai Abang, Kampung Danu, Kampung Semadang and Sungai Landeh. The physicochemical parameters that mostly influenced the diatom distribution were dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature, water current and biochemical oxygen demand (BODs). Result showed that the diatom distribution varied between stations, and dominated by pennate diatom genera. A total of 10 diatom genera were recorded. The most common genera were Cocconeis, Cymbella, Diploneis, Meridion and Gomphonema. Meridion was found at all stations with high percentage occurrence observed at Station J and-l. High percentage oJCymbel1a and Cocconeis occurred ar Station I and 2 respectively.
