Abstract

This study aims to investigate the chosen factors that influence the performance appraisal system of Yavasan Sarawak. The samples of this study are those executives and non-executives. Questionnaires were used to obtain jeedback from a total of 36 respondents who were selected using the strata random sampling method. The information obtained includes the respondent's background, level of the performance's appraisal effectiveness and factors that influence it. Four hypotheses were developed and tested in this record using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The dependent variables in this study are 'practicality, validity and employees" acceptability while the independent variables include `the relationship between managers and subordinates, measurement of contents and performance appraisal's handling. The findings showed that the efji'ctiveness level of performance appraisal in Yayasan Sarawak is at the medium level. The result using the Pearson's Correlation Coefficient indicated that only one of the factors, which is, measurement of contents had a significant relationship with the effectiveness level of performance appraisal. Organization should give more attention in this factor because a good measurement of contents will influence an effective level of performance appraisal. Though the other factors did not shows a positive relationship, but these factors also important to every organization in order to get a harmonious and peaceful working environment among workers. Employees should show their ability in doing their job if the organization has an effective performance appraisal's handling. Future researchers were advised to involved more design elements, which they think, might influence the effectiveness of performance appraisal. Besides that, they too can involve more samples from a different organization but from the same industrial to find more efft'ctive findings to their research.
