Abstract

Design and Build as procurement mode is considered relatively new in the Malaysian construction industry. The mode has certain benefits which can be used to address the limitations of Traditional General Contracting in Malaysia. However it was found that it certainly cannot be used to replace Traditional General Contracting and it is not a solution for all construction and projects. This research project closely looked into the benefits and limitations of Design and Build as procurement mode and the criteria to make it the right procurement selection. Interviews were conducted for three case studies based on the questionnaire designed. The data obtained were compared to one another and summarized to propose a theoretical model for the Design and Build selection of both the procurement type and also offers.
