Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between employee performance and selected conflict factors such as competition for limited resources, interdependence, differences in the objectives and communication problems. This study is also used to identify employee performance level, the level of the selected conflict factors and also to identify the most significant and dominant conflict factor that influences employee performance. A set of questionnaires was designed to get respondent opinion on employee performance and conflict factors. The sample for this study comprises of 60 employees currently attached to the JKR (Headquarter) Sarawak in Wisma Seberkas. All the research data was analyzed using descriptive statistic, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression. The findings of the study states that 68.3% of the respondents have high performance level while 31.7'% of the respondents have medium performance level. Overall result shows that the level of employee performance remains high. Competition for limited resources and communication problem were factors that influence high level of conflicts. Interdependence and differences in the objectives can influence medium level of conflicts in an organization. The findings of the study also state that the most significant conflict factor was the competition for limited resources. This is the most dominant factor because it influences 9.6% of employee performance level. The implication of this study is to improve the awareness of JKR management towards factors that create conflict because it directly influences performance levels of their employees. Besides that, management can also take proper steps to sustain high employee performance level in the long run.
