Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of employees at Telecom Malaysia Berhad, Miri on the organisastion as a learning organisation. The main objectives of the study are to determine employees perception on the level of support provided by the organisation for learning, consistent evaluation, feedback, information and training. In addition, the study aims to evaluate employees' perception on the organisation as a learning organisation based on educational level and length of service. Sixty-three (63) employees from various departments at the organisation headquarters were selected randomly. Data was gathered through questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive (frequency and percentage) as well as inferential methods (One way ANOVA Test). The study shows that 52.4 percent of the respondents perceived that as a learning organisation, their organisation is at the high level. The study also shows that the employees perceived that the level of support for five criteria of the learning organisastion used in this study that is, support for learning, consistent evaluation, feedback, availability of information and training, are at the moderate level. Education level and the duration of service had no influence on their perception on the organisation as a learning organisation. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the organisation stress more on a systematic evaluation of the employees. This is because, most of the respondents (60.3 percent) perceived that the evaluation is at a moderate level. So, similarly goes to availability of information. The study shows that, majority of the respondents (69.8 percent) perceived that the availability of information is at a moderate level. Thus, it is important for the organisation to be more aware of the surrounding information whether it is internal or external.
