Abstract

This project is a research related to the implementation of lean manufacturing system (LMS) in the local automotive manufacturing industry. LMS is the philosophy of eliminating waste by implementing the lean tools and technique. The objectives of this project are to evaluate the implementation of LMS concepts in the manufacturing industry and identify the application of LMS that have been practiced in the local automotive manufacturing industry as well as proposing LMS tools and techniques in the local automotive manufacturing company. One of the automotive manufacturing company has been chosen as a case study to achieve the objectives of this project. The chosen company is Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd which is situated in Alor Gajah, Melaka. The method used for this research is the case study method. The case study method is used to conduct the study and collect data regarding their understanding about LMS and their implementation of LMS through interview and questionnaire survey. Based on the results, since the company had been long established, it is found out that they had already implemented the lean manufacturing and use some of the lean tools and techniques in their company. The lean tools and techniques that will be more focused on and discussed in this research would he the implementation on 5S and Kaizen in the company. There were also challenges that the company encountered during the implementation of the LMS. For the final part of this research, a proposal for improvement in the implementation of the lean to reduce waste that occurs in their production was made for the company. In conclusion, the objectives of this research are achieved, and some recommendations are stated to help further improve this project in the future.
