Abstract
Delay in the building construction are a global problem. Although project delays have always been a problem for the construction sector, and Malaysia's construction sector is facing the same problem as well as in Sarawak. One of the major issues with construction projects in developing nations is delays, which have a detrimental impact on the projects and only can delays be reduced when their underlying causes are found. The majority of construction projects are delayed in Sarawak including the private sector and government sector. The aim of the research paper are to analyze the specific causes and effects of these delays could have a significant impact on the project's efficiency in Sarawak construction industry government sector and the measures to minimize the delays in JKR construction projects by contractors in Kuching, Sarawak. Three objectives of this paper are identified the main causes for the delays in the JKR construction projects by contractors in Kuching, Sarawak and to identified the effects for the delays in JKR construction projects by contractors in Kuching, Sarawak and the measures to minimize the delays in JKR construction projects by contractors in Kuching, Sarawak. The research methodology are using quantitative approach in this study. The paper used questionnaire survey to assess and collect the data from contractor party that involved in JKR construction projects and how the most relative importance of causes and effects of construction delays in Kuching, Sarawak and the measures for minimizing delays in JKR construction projects in Kuching, Sarawak. In conclusion, the contractor need having the smart project planning during the early stage of the project construction process by identified the main causes for the delays of the project and the goals of the project need to be identified so that in general can help with contractors' work plans, cost control to avoid cost overrun, and smart project management to complete the project in time.
