Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of embedded insulating material and layered zone under roofing system by comparing the temperature reduction or rise to the conventional part as a reference. The insulating material use in this study is aluminium foil with thin insulating material, fiber glass and polystyrene. We use plywood as the layer to separate between the multiple zones in the attics. Only one test cell is used throughout the experiment with the size about half the size of actual office or room. With the measured temperature, the temperature difference between zones in the attics was calculated. Conductive and radiative heat transfer involved in the attics were considered and discussed. The effect of the embedded insulating material influence the radiative heat transfer when there is a significant temperature difference and conductive heat transfer influence the roof top heat transfer to the insulating material followed by the multiple layered zones in the attics. Embedded layered zone provides steadier temperature under roofing system compare to the conventional part and reduced the temperature in the attics. Reduced temperature up to 10% temperature reduction in the attics lowered the temperature to inner test cell. Layered zones part does not affected much by the surrounding changes but the conventional part is slightly affected by the changes.
