Abstract

Background: The significant global shortage of nursing profession in many countries, including Malaysia has become a tremendous issue and the increment of international recruitment to fill the gaps. It leads to migration where skilled nurses move to wealthier nations for better opportunities which are driven by several factors. Methods: A qualitative research with descriptive design and data were collected using semi-structured interviews. Findings: All respondents expressed a desire to pursue international employment. Nursing students are motivated to work abroad by a range of factors beyond financial incentives, including opportunities for professional growth and personal aspirations. Nevertheless, substantial obstacles such as financial limitations, linguistic disparities, and personal hurdles need to be addressed to support their successful integration and retention in the global healthcare sector. Conclusion: The research identified financial opportunities, professional growth, and personal interest, while significant barriers include economic factors, language proficiency issues, and individual challenges. The study suggests recommendations aimed at addressing these challenges and fostering support for nursing students in achieving their career objectives.
