Abstract

Many fungi species are increasingly reported as good Triacylglycerols (TAG) producers and they are able to accumulate lipids above 50% of their biomass on dry basis. In our study we employed the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger as the lipid accumulating fungus. The A. niger culture were grown in different concentration of glucose solution in order to determine the lipid accumulation. Two different glucose concentrations were used in this experiment namely, 2.5% (w/v) of glucose solution and 5.0% (w/v) of glucose solution. From our study, we found that the best concentration for lipid accumulation in A. niger was 5.0% (w/v) of glucose solution because the increase in glucose solution, induced more lipid production in the A.niger. The result shown 0.075 g/L of lipid was collected in 5.0% (w/v) of glucose solution whereas in 2.5% (w/v) of glucose solution, 0.050 g/L of lipid was collected.
