Abstract

In August 2018, a spacecraft named Parker Solar Probe was built with a noble purpose of reaching the Sun' outermost atmosphere - The Corona for us to understand how it affects life in the solar system. Space exploration is the only way to educate students about the importance of understanding the Sun and the solar system. Minimal exposure to space exploration, a lack of gamification in the learning environment, and limited involvement and enthusiasm among students are the current issues encountered in Malaysia's space science syllabus. Therefore, Mission to the Star, a single-player game is created. It is an online learning platform that integrates game elements to spark the interest of Malaysian primary school students and support the country's current education system. Kids between the ages of 7 and 12 can use this platform to learn about PSP’s journey to the Sun. The player will then be introduced to their extraordinary mission: travelling to the Sun's atmosphere and gathering as much information as they can. As the player, playing as a spacecraft moves toward its goal, the player will encounter various satellites, planets, phenomena, and spacecraft in the Solar System. The findings from the study indicate that the integration of game elements, including badges, certificates, permission to fail, leaderboard, and more, into the learning platform has significantly increased student engagement in learning about the Parker Solar Probe. The incorporation of these game elements has motivated students by providing them with an interactive and enjoyable learning experience. Mission to the Star is significant because it provides a true experience that will spark young students' interest in space exploration and space science knowledge.
