Abstract

Politician deliver their promises or manifesto frequently especially during election in order to obtain support from community. Those promises will be recorded and published as news article by press reporter. However, community hard to confirm if the political promises being fulfilled after few years as there are huge volume of the promises made by politician and it is a time consumed work to read all news articles to track the progress of the promises. Therefore, this project is about to collect news articles from Borneo Post Online website and extracted and analysed all promises published on the collected news articles. In this project, news articles title and news articles content are collected from the website. After the promises sentences being extracted, the news articles content will be used to compare with promises sentences and only the promises sentences that achieved similarity score that higher than 0.70 will be used at the next step. During the next step, Named Entity Recognition (NER) will be used to extract promises in this project by specific entity. The last step of this project is to compare all the extracted political promises and obtained the result. There are 24 fulfilled promises and 21 non-fulfilled promises with 45 political promises extracted. The purposes of this project are about to extract all political promises that consists in Borneo Post Online, to validate and determine the political promises made if it is fulfilled and to calculate the percentage of the political promises will be fulfilled by politician. The limitations of this project are relying to the manpower as the link of each news articles need to be collected manually and short period of the news articles collected. The recommendations for improvement are increasing the news articles collection period and using Web-Scrapping method and NLTK library for extracting the political promises.
