Abstract

This study aims to show the innovation for the word "koyak" which has expandedits meaning based on its use. In this case, the use of the word "koyak" is also categorizedas a slang word that is contagious on social media, especially Facebook, InstagramandTwitter with an expanded meaning. To show the expansion of meaning, the researcher will explain the core meaning and fringe meaning of the word “koyak” after identifyingnew meanings that can be seen in terms of its use. In this study, the text analysis methodis used to obtain the whole meanings of the word. The researcher uses corpus data that is the concordance of the Pusat Rujukan Persuratan Melayu (PRPM) Dewan BahasadanPustaka (DBP) through dictionaries, magazines and newspapers including the data fromsocial media. Based on research, the original meaning of the word "koyak" simply means a hole or split in something like clothes. However, the word "koyak" is nowbringinganew meaning that refers to feeling disappointed, sad or feeling impressed after beinginsulted. Through the findings, it is clear that the vocabulary in the Malay language is indeed a lot. Not only that, this study can also help the community to understandthemeanings of the use of the slang word "koyak"
