Abstract
Language politeness is politeness and delicacy when using language, both in communication. The use of polite, delicate, civilized, gentle, and respectful language while communicatingwithothers refers to language politeness and decency (Beden & Zahid, 2015). Next, this studyhaschosen the language politeness in the novel KOMSAS Di Sebalik Dinara by Dayang Noor. Thepurpose of this study is to find out the language politeness that the author wants to conveyinthenovel Di Sebalik Dinara by Dayang Noor to the reader based on 3 objectives. The first objectiveof this study is to identify the aspects of language decency explicitly in the novel BehindDinara. The second objective is to analyze the aspects of spoken language politeness based onLeech’s(1983) Principle of Politeness. The third objective is to identify the ef ect of language decencyemphasized by the author in the novel. This study has focused on Leech’s (1983) Principleof Decency which consists of six maxims. This study has also used a qualitative method that is withtext analysis. Researchers have also selected KOMSAS novels to be studied. The findings showedthat eight events complied with the six maxims, namely the maxim of politeness, the maximof generosity, the maxim of support, the maxim of humility, the maxim of agreement, and the maximof sympathy found in Leech's Principles of Politeness (1983) in Chapter 1 to Chapter 5of theKOMSAS novel
