Abstract
A study on species composition of macromoths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) was conducted from February to April 2022 at a peat swamp forest and lowland forest in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This study aimed to determine the species composition and abundance of macromoths in the study area. Two modified Pennsylvanian light traps with blacklight ultraviolet tube (8W) were set up at each forest during two sampling occasions. Light trapping was conducted from 1830 hours to 0800 hours and samples were collected every morning. A total of 165 individuals representing 95 species and nine families were recorded at a peat swamp forest of UNIMAS Real Living Lab. Meanwhile, a total of 134 species and 381 individuals from eight families were documented at the lowland forest of Zoology Forest. Lowland forest had a greater total abundance and species abundance of moths from the family Erebidae compared to peat swamp forest, with 43.28% of relative abundance species. The sampling occasion was affected by continuous heavy rain on specific days throughout the sampling nights.
