Abstract

Peat swamp forests is known as its acidity ecology but least research was studies on frog diversity and richness. Most of the frog fauna research are studied on lowland and hilly dipterocarp forests. There is lack of studies related to frog species diversity and species richness within the campus of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This research is to find the difference in species diversity of anurans between peat swamp forests and non-peat swamp forests and the difference in species richness of anurans between peat swamp forests and non-peat swamp forests. There are recorded a total of 11 species of anurans in both peat swamp and non-peat swamp forests. The data was analysed with result in Shannon Index of peat swamp forest is H=1.553 while the Shannon Index of non-peat swamp forest is H=1.93. The species richness of peat swamp forest is equal to 3.651 and the species richness of non-peat swamp forest is equal to 4.381. There is a significant difference in species diversity and species richness of anurans between peat swamp forests and non-peat swamp forests.
