Abstract

Endophyte Marasmius cladophyllus UMAS MS8 is a white-rot Basidiomycetes isolated from Senduduk plant (Melastoma malabathricum) that is capable of producing degradative laccase enzyme. This study evaluates the growth efficiency of M. cladophyllus on leaf litter of Mimusops elengi (Spanish cherry), Cinnamomum iners (Wild cinnamon), and Filicium decipiens (Japanese fern tree). Fungal growth was tested on two types of solid media and liquid media. The growth efficiency of M. cladophyllus was successfully assessed through radial growth measurements on solid media. Leaf litter of Cinnamomum iners (Wild cinnamon) and Mimusops elengi (Spanish cherry) was found the best leaf litter for growth of M. cladophyllus. M. cladophyllus has thicker mycelial formation on the solid media containing leaf litter with addition of minimal growth support nutrient. Meanwhile, leaf litter of Mimusops elengi (Spanish cherry) shows better result via dry cell weight measurements. Future research on M. cladophyllus is necessary because of its significant potential in industrial application.
