Abstract
A comparison of dietary composition of the Many-lined Skink, Eutropis multifasciata from two localities were conducted, based on samples from the Kledang Saiong Eco Park, near Ipoh, Peninsular Malaysia and Kota Samarahan campus of UNIMAS, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Sampling took place over a period of about six months. Food items were collected using the stomach-flushing method to compare prey types. Simpsons diversity index was used to quantify diversity of prey items in the gut contents of E. multifasciata. Diversity of prey items in E. multifasciata obtained in this study is 88 percent. Observation during foraging of the species were also recorded. Prey categories of Many-lined Skink collected are mainly comprised of insects including Orthoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera and Arachnid. Results show no overlapping diet between studied species in these two localities. Further research on the prey preference of the species should be conducted by sampling during different seasons for better comprehension of the species and its future conservation.
