Abstract

Fungi are one of organisms that can be found everywhere including the soil. This study was conducted to identify abundance fungi population in sago planted soil as well as to enumerate the number of fungi colony isolates based on their colony forming unit (CFU). Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) was used in this study to grow and isolate the fungi. 7 isolates from non-sago palm planted soil which represents horticultural soil while 7 isolates from sago palm planted soil which represents agricultural soil were chosen as representatives for other abundant isolates for morphological identification. It was assumed that Trichoderma spp, Rhizopus spp. and Aspergillus spp. were found in both horticultural and agricultural soil but Absidia sp. and Penicillium citrinum were predominant in horticultural soil while Gliocladium spp., Chrysosporium tropicum and Clasdosporium sphaerospermum were predominant in sago-planted agricultural soil.
