Abstract

A fundamental knowledge of species diversity and their correlation to habitats are essential in understanding land use and management. Thus, compiling and analyzing data on herpetofaunal species present in the campus of UNIMAS at Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, is critical for their conservation and management. The purpose of this research is to analyze relative abundance of herpetofaunal species in peat swamp forests in the campus of UNIMAS, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak and to document the species of herpetofauna present in local forests. The sampling involved both active and passive methods, which are Visual Encounter Survey (VES), and pitfalls trapping. 91 individuals of herpetofauna from 18 varied species were identified and recorded in a period of three weeks sampling. This study provides a better understanding relative abundance on amphibian and reptile species distribution in peat swamp forests in UNIMAS as it will help in future research, conservation, and management
