Abstract

This paper presents the development of the existing Smart Energy Meter. Lack of awareness on managing power consumption contributes to more electricity waste. Apart from that, poor internet coverage in certain areas and poor complete data of power consumption for consumers also become the main factors to consider in proposing the SMEM system. From this paper, an intelligent energy meter based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and manual data display developed. IoT-based smart energy meter was implemented by using the ESP32 Wi-Fi module and sensors. Smart monitoring electrical meter developed has managed to measure and power consumption data of loads was displayed on Liquid Crystal Display and Blynk application at the same time. The loads used in this prototype are four 1-Watt bulbs. Current and voltage sensors measure voltage and current and then send data to ESP32. The billing charges also displayed in SMEM, and charges amount based on electric tariff set by Sarawak Energy Berhad.
