Abstract

A study on the fish diversity and selected in-situ water quality parameters was conducted at Sungai Belat, Sungai Tuang and Sungai Sabang, Sarawak. A total of 78 individuals comprised of 12 families were caught with Arridae as the dominant family (70.52%), followed by Sciaenidae (6.41%) and Gobiidae (3.58%). The dominant species was Arius caelatus (N=37), followed by A.sagor (N=13). A. caelatus and A. sagor both showed a positive allometry (b > 3) which implied the fish becomes deeper bodies or stouter as it increases in length. The rivers varied in depth between 1.8m to 8.67m, with pH ranged between 4.07 to 8.28, water temperature between 29.3°C to 30.8°C, dissolved oxygen concentration between 5.2mg/L to 14.1mg/L, turbidity 363.33NTU to 1092.67NTU and salinity ranged between 1 ppt to 6.33 ppt. This finding is served as baseline data which will be useful in future study on these rivers.
