From the study, it was found that majority of the villagers in Sungai Petai are categorize as low income or poor households. Agriculture remains significant to the villages in generating income for the rural communities. However, there are differences among the nature of involvement of Chinese and Than villagers in agriculture activities. Regarding the out-migration trends in Sungai Petai, the researcher found that there are differences in perception between the Than and Chinese on the views of out-migration. Based on the possible reasons which stimulate outmigration opportunity, need for higher education and young generation lack of interest in agriculture activities are the main drivers.
