Abstract

The purpose of this research are to explore the financial distress among college students, to identify the factors of financial distress and the consequences. Six college students from Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development UNIMAS were interviewed using semistructured interview virtually. The findings revealed the themes of factors of their financial distress such as personal problems, financial literacy and living expenses. The themes of consequences and effect such as negative emotion, physical health and future debt. The Positive Psychology PERMA Model was discussed to explain the wellbeing of the participant. This study could have further implications on the understanding of the college student’s burden financially and may open a new perspective on how to ease these burden.
