Abstract

This study aims to investigate language behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic in a short message service implemented by the National Security Council (NSC) by highlighting Searle's Theory of Speech Behavior (1969). The objective of this study was to identify the implicit language through short message service (SMS) by MKN related to COVID-19 and to analyze the implicit meaning of SMS in the pandemic transmission option of COVID-19 with the Searle Speech Act (1969). The platform used in this study is a short message service from the National Security Council (MKN). A total of 175 text messages were collected and data screened from March 2020 to October 2020. This study uses several technical methods of qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. The results of the study found that the utterances presented by MKN do not require implicit meaning because the use of lexical that is easy to understand and not figurative makes the meaning of the language very clear. As such, the community mutually understands the statement conveyed by the speaker because its explicit meaning in the SMS is very relevant to be understood. However, this finding has yet to be confirmed as the extension of PKP is still ongoing due to the increasing spread of the COVID19 pandemic. The likelihood will change from time to time based on the number of cases occurred.
