Abstract
The purpose of this assessment is to assess the subsurface condition of peat soil due to brackish groundwater seepage using a numerical method. This water comes from pumping activities and will fill up the earth drain. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) build the drainage to help extinguish peat fire in the study area where the water will spread out into the peat soil and, hence, moisturize the soil. This assessment uses Visual MODFLOW to visualize the condition in the study area and produce the outcomes related to the objectives of the study. The results of the simulation show that there is only a small portion of high salt concentration along the drainage. The migration of salt concentration is affected by the groundwater head and velocity vectors of the aquifer materials. Meanwhile, the high salt concentration from the sea focuses along the coastline. Most of the other places in the study area receive a low salt concentration. Therefore, the impact of brackish groundwater on the environment is not significant since the salt concentration is low in most of the study area.
