Abstract

This study is done by comparing the structural design for a three-story bungalow house between BS 8110 and EC 2. The main objectives of this study are to find out the significant dissimilar in design practices, to do and compare the structural design and identify a more economise design approaches between both codes. In this study, all the « structural elements of the three-story bungalow house include beams, slabs and columns were analysed for both codes by using Esteem software. Note should be taken that the structural dimensions adopted by both codes are same, the analyses are done on the quantity of steel needed by both codes. To validate the results done by Esteem software, manual calculations are also done for critical members in each floor only, the error between Esteem results and manual calculations should within 20% is consider valid. The .. validated Esteem results which include structural design and quantity take off results are then used for comparison between codes. The validation and comparison works are organised into several tables and some discussions were made according to the work.
