Abstract

It is a life in which adult children will take on the responsibilities of parents who have nurtured, educated and raised children until they know the meaning of life. Therefore, adult children need to look after their parents as much as possible. Today's modernization phenomenon is where the increasingly challenging standard of living brings low-income adults to many challenges while also caring for aging parents. The study was conducted to find out the challenges faced by low-income adults in caring for older parents. The study was qualitative by using face-to-face interviews with the study respondents. The respondents in this study were lowincome adult children in Song, Sarawak and living with elderly parents. A respondent was interviewed for a pilot study to confirm the effectiveness of the chosen study method. For this study, a total of five single child respondents were involved and interviewed around the residential area of Song. All six respondents were selected using sampling techniques aimed at setting the target respondents and listing the characteristics that the respondents need to fulfill. The results show that the challenges faced by every low-income adult in parenting vary. In addition, the challenges faced will have both positive and negative effects on the children. In addition, there are a number of steps that low-income adults can take in facing the challenges that can be avoided. The researchers hope that this study will benefit the relevant parties.
