Abstract

Amylase is an endo-type enzyme that offers attractive economic benefit in many industrial purpose. In this work, induction studies with recombinant E. coli BL21 expressing heterologous amylase was studied. The effect of different carbon sources and the cultivation temperature on E.coli BL21 expressing amylase was investigated. The result from this study showed that glucose was found to be the best carbon source for high amylase activity. Besides that, glycerol could be used as an alternative due to its promising performance. Meanwhile, 37 °C was found to be the optimum temperature for expressing amylase in recombinant E. coli BL2 l. Further studies on the induction should be continued in future in order to support the current results.
