Abstract

In this thesis, Pearl millet was used for potential raw material for fuel ethanol production in this study. Ethanol fermentation was performed using a 3 L bioreactor and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CSI- 1). Ethanol fermentation efficiency at 20 % dry mass on a 3 L bioreactor reached 82.5 %. Results showed that the fermentation efficiencies of pearl millets, on a starch basis, were comparable to those of corn and grain sorghum. Pearl millet ferments faster than other cereals due to the presence of proteins and maximizes the fermentable sugars and optimizes the processing time for saccharification and fermentation.
